Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Dibrugarh / Along (255 kms, 6 hrs drive)

Arrive Dibrugarh by flight.
Meeting upon arrival and depart for Along by car.

En route cross the Brahmaputra river by the newest bridge in the Brahmaptra at Bogibeel.

Arrive Along and check in at hotel.

Along: Along the headquarter of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh located at an altitude of 300 m from the sea level. Sitting amidst abundant natural surroundings, Along in Arunachal Pradesh is a small town with beautiful villages. Along Arunachal Pradesh is a most ideal place to spend the hot summer seasons. The picturesque surroundings laced with brilliant plantations makes Along in Arunachal one of the most perfect health resorts of India.

Day 02: Along

Morning after breakfast visit:

Dony Polo Temple: Established in 1972, Dony Polo Temple at Aalo (Aalong), is a religious centre of the followers of the Dony Polo religion. Out of 400 community centres of Arunachal Pradesh, it is designated to be the only worshipping centre of the Dony Polo religion in the entire state. The religion possesses no written scriptures. The rituals and the traditions have been orally passed from the ancestors to the next generations. There is a belief among the Dony Polo animist of a common lineage of the people of Arunachal Pradesh as the descendents of Abotani. The rituals of this religion includes invoking of the spirit and nature along with holy sacrifices to the spirits. The Dony Polo Temple acts as the centre of worshipping objects of nature, the Sun and the Moon. The temple premise consists of a community hall, a meditation room and a prayer hall.

Kabu village: The inhabitants of the Kabu village are Galo tribal people. Both monogamy and polygamy are prevalent in this tribe following a patriarchal system of society. The base of economy of this tribe is agriculture. Initially shifting cultivation was practised by Galo people, but at present wet rice and tarrace cultivation dominates the agricultural scenario. Even though Galo language is spoken by 95 % of their total population, people also speak Assamese, Hindi and English language.

Hanging Bridge: Hanging bridge on the Siang river is another thing to see at Along. This bridge is local made of cane and bamboo. The bridge is around 60 to 70 m long connecting to the others hill tribes, fishing are the sports for these tribe.

Confluence of Siang and Siyom: The spectacular look into the scenic beauty of confluence of two rivers – Siang and Siyom is worth watching. The source of Siang river is Talung Tso Lake in South Western Part of Tibet. This trans boundary river is named as yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet, Siang in Arunachal Pradesh, Brahmaputra in Assam and Jamuna in Banglagesh.

Day 03: Along / Mechuka (180 Kms, 8 – 9 hrs drive)

Morning after an early breakfast depart for Mechuka.

Mechuka also known as Menchukha is a small town nestled 6,000 feet (1,829 m) above sea level in the Mechuka Valley of Arunachal Pradesh. Mechuka is fast becoming a popular offbeat tourist destination for the people who are looking for peace and tranquility due to its untapped bounties of scenic beauty, exotic tribes, gentle hills and snow-capped mountains and River Siyom (locally known as Yargyap Chu). The name Menchukha is derived from MEN CHU KHA which in local language means medicinal snow water as it is believed that the melted snow water from the mountain peaks has medicinal values.

The major tourist attraction here is a 400-year-old Samten Yongcha Buddhist Monastery. Dedicated to the Mahayana sect of Buddhism the monastery is located at a hilltop in the westernmost part of Menchukha. Numerous ancient statues can also be found here which signifies the historical and cultural importance of this serene valley

Day 04: Mechuka

Morning after breakfast explore the nearby places outside the main town.

One can sit in the bank of Yargyap chu river and do some fishing. Traditional bamboo fishing rods are available on the bank. Cross the hanging bridge that connects the other side of the village with the town. The hanging bridge is quite strong and stable made of wood not bamboo.

Later visit:

Samsen Yongcha monastery: Built in the 14th century, it is older than the revered Tawang Monastery. Located on a hilltop at the village’s western edge, this ancient monastery has beautiful statues of Guru Padmasambhava and fascinating masks of mythological figures that are used during the Chaam dances (a lively masked and costumed dance associated with some Tibetan Buddhist festivals).

The Samden Choling Gompa: This new is situated on a hill top overlooking the town. The peaceful Gompa, gives unparalleled views of the town.

Day 05: Mechuka (Trek to the Menchukha La)

Morning after breakfast opt for the moderate trek to the Mechuka La

The trek to the Mechuka La (Menchukha La): The Menchukha La is one of the many surrounding mountains where a hike to the top can give a person the bird’s eye view of Mechuka town. This trek is famous for the huge MENCHUKA Sign that is inscribed at the top of the mountain as the Los Angeles HOLLYWOOD Sign. The trek starts from the Bumjipanga bridge, outside the main town. It takes around 3 1/2 hours to reach there. Halfway through the trek the town of Mechuka can be seen without any hindrance.

Later return to Mechuka.
By evening, you should be back to the homestay or just loiter around Mechuka Town.
