This was one of the most adventurous, scenic, and most beautiful also the most risky meter gauge railway track of the Indian Railways.

the British had taken about 16 years to build the track. The Badarpur-Lumding section was a part of the Assam Bengal Railways and was meant to transport tea, coal and timber..

With the commencement of new Broad Gauge line along with the new bridges and tunnels, this century old railway line and its marvellous tunnels and bridges has become pieces of majestic history which draws attention to the history lovers as wells as the adventure seekers.

Grand Eastern Holidays promotes this heritage walks and treks along the abandoned MG railway tracks starting from Haflong Hill Railway Station to Harangajao Railway Station via Mahur. It is a tough yet exciting venture amidst hills, ravines and rivulets comprising almost 18 kms. The trekkers can find and cross abandoned century old tunnels and bridges built on the brooks. At many places, the tracks lay dismantled and even the bridges have rusted out. It is risky sometimes, but any kind of ‘risk ingredient’ in trekking adventure makes it a whole lot more exciting. During the entire trek the trekkers will surely be totally taken in by the verdant surroundings and the “blessed beauty” of the region.
