MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN KALIMPONG

Deolo Hill: Renowned as the prime attraction of Kalimpong, Deolo Hill is located around 9 Kms away from the town and is perhaps the highest point in Kalimpong. It is one of the 2 hills between which the town is sandwiched, the other one being Durpin hill. One can savour the beautiful views of the surrounding valleys, the Teesta river, and villages from here.

Flower Nurseries: Kalimpong is home to many famous flower nurseries and considered as the export Hubs of exotic flowers and orchids. One should visit the beautifully laid out ‘Universal Nursery’ about 3 km from the town. The Standard nursery is famous for its variety of roses and dahlias. The Sri Ganesh Moni Pradhan Nursery at 12th mile is specially renowned for its varieties of orchids and the Udai Mani Pradhan Nursery are among the most important in the area.

 

Dr. Graham’s House: It was founded by Dr. John Anderson Graham in 1900 on the lower slopes of Deole Hill. This Extraordinary educational institution is situated in a sprawling campus of 500 acres. The institution has its own farmhouse, bakery, dairy, poultry, hospital and clothing department. Every year in the month of May a gala festival called May Fair is organised here. It is a unique institution proudly safeguarding the name of its founder and his ideals, is a reason of hope, love and the confidence. It is supported by part by charitable collections and sponsors from all over the world.

Pedong Monastery: Established in 1837 by the Bhutan’s King, Pedong Monastery this monastery is situated about a kilometre away from the Damsang fort.

Mangal Dham: This temple in Kalimpong, was built by Shri Krishna Pranami, a Hindu sect and in the memory of late Guru Shri 108 Mangaldasji in 1993. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. In addition, the Mangal Dham temple also houses the idols of Prannath, Raj Shyamji and Mangaldasji, which are present on the top floor of this temple.
