The first glimpse of the lake astounds the visitors by its strange and estatic beauty. The quite, calm lake is surrounded by high hills and green forests which serves as a home to a variety of birds, animals, flora and fauna. The deep blue lake is a fish farm and is frequented by tourists every year. Literally meaning “lake of Mustard”, Tamdil has a small folklore attached to it. According to the ancient sayings, a widow used to take care of a jhum cultivation in this valley encompassed by hills which had a big mustard plant in the middle of the field. Told to her in her dream by her dead husband to take special care of the mustard plant, she acted likewise. But her second husband out of envy uprooted the plant creating a hole in that place from where water oozed out to form a lake.A serene lake in the middle of nowhere is around 85 km from Aizawl. The reflection of the surrounding green forest over the clear blue lake of Tamdil is a feast for our eyes. The reflection of the rising sun over the green leaves of the forest makes the environment more vibrant. The lake is small but the picturesque and enchanting forest arrests the attention of the nature lovers.
